Before flying to Zanzibar, it is worth updating your vaccination booklet and checking if you have been vaccinated against diphtheria, tetanus and whooping cough. If not, the vaccine can be taken at a pharmacy – the pharmacist can vaccinate the patient in the pharmacy after conducting an interview, the service is free of charge, you only have to pay for the vaccine.

In addition, you should consult a travel medicine clinic or pharmacy that issues the International Vaccination Booklet – a list of pharmacies:

and consider vaccination against:
- yellow fever (the vaccine is mandatory for people who come to Zanzibar from outside Europe, from the so-called endemic countries, e.g. Sub-Saharan Africa and Central and South America)

When going to Zanzibar, it is worth remembering that it is a region with an increased risk of tropical diseases. Malaria is prevalent throughout the area, so you should discuss taking antimalarial medications such as atovaquone with proguanil with your doctor before traveling, and consistently use DEET repellents at least 30% on site, sleep under a mosquito net, and limit your time outside at dusk. There is no widely available vaccine against malaria in Poland yet. Other diseases that can be contracted in Zanzibar from ticks are dengue and chikungunya, so the use of repellents is absolutely necessary.

During the entire trip, you should drink only bottled water and use it to rinse your mouth, e.g. when brushing your teeth.
