Yes, this can happen. More information below:
"The initial therapeutic dose is 500 mg twice daily. This dose can be started on the first day of treatment. However, a lower starting dose of 250 mg twice daily may be given based on physician assessment of the reduction in seizure frequency and potential side effects. After two weeks, the dose can be increased to 500 mg twice a day. Depending on clinical response and tolerability, the daily dose may be increased to 1500 mg twice daily. Dosage may be adjusted by increasing or decreasing the daily dose by 250 mg or 500 mg twice daily, every two to four weeks."
If you have the impression that the effect of the drug is too strong, you should consult a doctor.
Additional information:
"Like other antiepileptic drugs, levetiracetam may in rare cases cause an increase in the frequency or severity of seizures. This paradoxical effect was most commonly reported within the first month after initiation of levetiracetam therapy or after dose escalation, and was reversible upon discontinuation or dose reduction."
The occurrence of adverse effects hindering normal functioning (including the severity of the underlying disease) is also an indication for medical consultation. It is worth remembering that some patients may observe a deterioration in well-being at the beginning of the treatment.
