Can Doxepin cause the development of osteoporosis and thyroid tumors?
I have been taking Doxepin for 20 years, but the dosage is 5 mg (I share a capsule).I was diagnosed with the onset of osteoporosis - osteopenia.No one in the family had this.Could it be due to the fact that I am taking Doxepin? And also, do I have nodules on the thyroid gland? Did you read that Doxepin can affect the thyroid? Confirm or deny my concerns.

The summary of product characteristics does not indicate a risk of osteoporosis or thyroid nodules with Doxepin. The most common side effects are related to the effects on the nervous system. Doxepin is contraindicated in elderly patients due to more common side effects such as hallucinations, confusion, dry mouth, etc.
The development of osteoporosis can be associated with hormonal disorders (often in menopausal women), advanced age or appear as a result of chronic steroid use. The onset of osteoporosis may require calcium and vitamin D3 supplementation, and in some situations also the implementation of prescription medications. Physical activity is very important, especially strength exercises that shape muscles and strengthen the bones.
