Although the concentration of an antiepileptic drug in the blood is normal, its effectiveness depends on its penetration of the blood-brain barrier and on the individual sensitivity of receptors in the brain.
In some people, the drug may not work optimally, so the doctor sometimes increases the dose to achieve a therapeutic effect in the central nervous system. If the seizures are not well controlled or side effects occur, your doctor may consider changing the preparation. Such differences are due to individual metabolism and complex mechanisms of action of antiepileptic drugs.
