Hello, my partner has been using Evra contraceptive patches for over half a year. On March 27, they had intercourse by rubbing each other with their naked genitals. My partner says that for about 5 days she has brown discharge once a day and is this the process of vaginal cleansing? Is there a risk of pregnancy after such intercourse, when the partner uses the patches properly and the last patch is to be removed on April 25? These patches are too complicated, so please answer.

The effectiveness of the patches is maintained throughout the time they are worn and during the 7-day break between packs of patches. The contraceptive effectiveness of Evra patches is about 99%, so the risk of pregnancy is negligible.
In the situation you described, however, there was no risk of pregnancy because there was no ejaculation of semen in the vagina. Therefore, there is no reason to worry.
When it comes to spotting – it can occur especially in the first months of using the patches. However, this does not mean that contraceptive effectiveness is reduced. Spotting can accompany the body's adaptation to the supply of synthetic hormones, this is a completely normal reaction when using hormonal contraception.
To sum up - in the situation described above, there is no fear that your partner could have an unplanned pregnancy.
