Tell me, please. An antibiotic, xifaxsan 200, 2 tablets 2 times a day for 14 days was prescribed for IBS. On the 12th day, I realized that I drank 1 tablet 2 times a day, i.e. I reduced the dosage of the drug by 2 times. Is it worth prolonging the intake of antibiotics, completing the course of pills, increasing the dosage? Or it is not worth it anymore. I feel better.

If you feel better, there is no need to continue the treatment at a lower dose. Sokor symptoms have disappeared, and the therapy can be completed according to the doctor's recommendation. In this situation, it is worth consulting a doctor to assess the need for continued treatment. It may be beneficial to complete the treatment as recommended to ensure full eradication of the bacteria and avoid recurrence of IBS or SIBO symptoms.
Xifaxan (rifaximin) is used to treat irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and small intestine bacterial overgrowth syndrome (SIBO). The recommended dose is usually 200 mg every 8 hours, for a total of 1600 mg per day for 14 days, which is optimal for the effectiveness of the treatment.
It is also helpful to change your diet and avoid fermentation-inducing products, such as insoluble fibre or flatulent products. The Ministry of Health also recommends the low FODMAP diet as a diet recommended in the hypersensitive intestine. It consists in temporarily limiting the consumed products by eliminating from the diet those that have a high level of FODMAPs (fermentable oligo-di- and monosaccharides and polyols):
