Posterisan is not a vaccine, the immunization effect only takes place locally, within the anus. The ointment contains inactivated Escherichia coli bacteria and its action is to stimulate the immune system at the site of application. The inactivated bacteria contained in the preparation help fight inflammation and support the healing process. However, the effect is not exerted on the entire body.
