Good morning. I wanted to know if Co-Prestarium is a new generation drug, i.e. if it is a safe drug. I am aware that, like any drug, it has side effects, but I have some concerns. I'm being treated for hypertension and so far I've been taking Tritace 2.5 mg - 2x 1/2 a day because one pill at a time lowered my blood pressure to 100-105/66-65/88-90 pulse. Does Co-Prestarium belong to the same group of medicines? I will be grateful for your reply.

Co-Prestarium contains perindopril and amlodipine as active substances. It is a drug that contains two substances with antihypertensive effects that have different mechanisms of action. As a combination preparation, it helps to reduce the number of tablets taken, which supports the effectiveness of the therapy.
Tritace contains only ramipril as the active substance.
Perindopril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor, just like ramipril.
Amlodipine, on the other hand, is a calcium channel antagonist.
Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors were introduced into medicine as early as 1975. Perindopril in 1980 and ramipril in 1989.
Calcium channel antagonists, on the other hand, were introduced into medicine in the 60s of the twentieth century. Amlodipine was patented in 1982.
The Anglo-Scandinavian Cardiac Outcomes Trial-Blood Pressure Lowering Arm study was a landmark study conducted in 2005 that compared the efficacy of an established combination therapy of atenolol ibendroflumethiazide with a new combination of the drugs amlodipine and perindopril. A study of more than 19,000 patients worldwide ended earlier than anticipated because it clearly showed a statistically significant improvement in mortality and cardiovascular outcomes with the newer treatment. The combination of amlodipine and perindopril remains in current guidelines for the treatment of hypertension, and the results of the ASCOT-BLA study have paved the way for further research into combination therapy and newer drugs.
To sum up, combined therapy with hypertensive drugs helps to achieve better results and has been considered a modern method for several years.
