Can older people use mercaptopurine?

I am 71 years old. I suffer from UC. I've been taking mercaptopurinum for years. Can older people be treated with this drug? If not, why not?
Best regards.

Yes, older people can use mercaptopurine if indicated. Since no clinical trials have been conducted in the elderly, monitoring of renal and hepatic function in these patients is recommended and a reduction in the dose of mercaptopurine should be considered in the event of impaired renal and hepatic impairment.
