Medicines containing isotretinoin (e.g. m.in. Axotret) can cause a number of side effects, so their use should be done under medical supervision. Axotret is strictly contraindicated in pregnant women due to its teratogenic (foetus-damaging) effects. Women of childbearing potential can take isotretinoin if they agree to participate in a contraception program. Other side effects include, for example, headaches, dry eyes and mucous membranes, liver strain, musculoskeletal pain.
