The symptoms of choking are primarily coughing. The body tries to defend itself and coughs up what has entered the respiratory tract. If the cough is ineffective, then other symptoms appear: breathing disorders, voicelessness, wheezing, gag reflex, and even cyanosis in the case of hypoxia.
Intervention is not needed if the cough is effective and after a while you manage to cough up a foreign body or, as in your case, a sip of water.
If, despite successful expectoration, you develop symptoms of hypoxia, you will need medical attention.
