Is the worsening of acne symptoms in the first weeks of treatment with Davercin and Epiduo a cause for concern?
It was prescribed to me Davercin and Epiduo by my dermatologist. I use the preparations in the evening alternately, one day Epiduo and the other Davercin. Is it normal that for the first two weeks of treatment I had a rash? Once I had the same treatment, except that instead of Davercin I used Normaclin and a similar problem appeared (after a month it stopped). Still, I prefer to make sure it's normal because I'm worried about the condition of my skin.

Such a short period of treatment makes it impossible to assess the effectiveness of the treatment. As Davercin and Epiduo are used on your doctor's recommendation, it is suggested that you contact your doctor.
According to the Summary of Product Characteristics of Epiduo, the duration of treatment should be determined by the physician based on the patient's clinical condition. The first signs of clinical improvement usually appear between 1 and 4 weeks of treatment.
On the other hand, the summary of product characteristics of Davercin states that the concomitant use of other anti-acne agents, especially exfoliants and abrasives, is not recommended. Concomitant topical application of other medicinal products may result in an increase in irritation.
If a combination topical treatment is required, another dermal medicinal product should be applied a few hours apart.
To sum up, it is difficult to say whether the severity of acne symptoms is a temporary reaction or an adverse effect of medications. The active ingredient in Epiduo, adapalene, has a very similar effect to retinoids. It is a strong modulator and significantly affects the process of proper differentiation of epidermal cells and its keratinization. It should be remembered that very small amounts of the preparation should be used initially. The optimal response occurs after 12 weeks.
