When to stop Glucophage XR if I intend to drink alcohol?

Can I drink alcohol occasionally with Glucophage XR 750mg? I take the drug because of insulin resistance and polycystic ovary syndrome. The doctor said that there is no problem if I do not take the drug even for a few days, so I also have a question how many days before / after to give up taking medication if I intend to drink alcohol?
