According to the summary of product characteristics: in children and adults, the risk of toxicity starts at a dose of 20 mg elemental iron per kg body weight (but is greater than 60 mg elemental iron per kg body weight). One tablet of Tardyferon contains 80 mg of iron ions. An overdose of an iron-containing drug is associated with numerous side effects and the need for hospitalization to detoxify the body. The manufacturer determines the dosage of the drug on the basis of clinical studies on the release of the active substance, its distribution and elimination from the body. It is difficult to assess which parameter determined the difference in the dosage of both preparations.
