Polopyrin S contains acetylsalicylic acid. There is no penicillin in its composition. Ospamox contains amoxicillin, a semi-synthetic penicillin substance. Duracef contains cephalosporin cefadroxil - antibiotics. Due to the fact that amoxcicillin and cefadroxil belong to a wider group of so-called betalactam antibiotics - their chemical structure is similar, and thus, patients diagnosed with allergy to any antibiotics included in this group are more likely to experience so-called cross-reactions that may occur between penicillins and other betalactam antibiotics. However, when Duracef is used by patients allergic to Ospamox, this risk is low - hypersensitivity to cephalosporins (e.g. Duracef) is found in only 1-3% of patients with hypersensitivity to penicillins (e.g. Ospamox).
