What can I use for cough?

Hello. Since the morning I have been suffering from a cough that I can not determine whether it is wet or dry. When coughing, I feel a slight expectoration, but not quite what causes further coughing attacks. My throat and chest hurt from it when I cough. I bought an expectorant herbal syrup, how else can I help myself?

If you cough, drink plenty of fluids (at least 2l a day).
