Should I give my son the antibiotic Macromax if the leaflet says that it should only be used for acne in adults?

The dermatologist prescribed Macromax for acne to my son, who is 16 years old. In the leaflet it says that it is only to be used for acne in adults. Should I still give my son this antibiotic?

Yes, you can give medicine to your son. If you prescribed Macromax for your son, the dermatologist assessed the risks and potential benefits of its use for acne in a young patient. The dermatologist can also adjust the dosage and monitor side effects to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the treatment. Macromax (azithromycin) is an antibiotic that is sometimes used to treat acne. The manufacturer recommends limiting the use of the drug to adults, due to the lack of sufficient studies on safety and efficacy in younger patients. However, in special cases, when the doctor believes that a given drug can benefit the patient, the doctor has the right to use the drug off-label, i.e. outside the manufacturer's indications. We wrote more about it here: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/artykuly/leczenie-off-label-poza-wskazaniami I enclose materials that may be interesting and information about the possibility of using teleconsultation: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/telekonsultacja https://www.gdziepolek.pl/artykuly/fakty-i-mity-o-tradziku-mlodzienczym https://www.gdziepolek.pl/artykuly/jak-pozbyc-sie-tradziku-u-doroslych
