The most effective method of protection against shingles and its complications is vaccination. Vaccination is recommended for all people over 50 years of age and younger adults (≥18 years of age) with an increased risk of developing the disease (e.g. immunocompromised due to chronic diseases, suffering from cancer or AIDS, after organ transplantation and immunosuppressive therapy, after chemotherapy and radiotherapy). Any adult can get vaccinated at a pharmacy.
