Hashimoto's disease is currently the most prevalent autoimmune disease. In its course, the immune system attacks the thyroid gland, which leads to the development of hypothyroidism. It is a condition to which women and the elderly are much more vulnerable. Prescription medications are used in the treatment of Hashimoto's, but appropriate supplementation can also provide support, e.g. preparations containing kelp, selenium and zinc.
