First of all, it is necessary to dwell on the cause of coughing. Is it accompanied by infection, runny nose, breathing problems, fever? Or is it just a cough? Has an infection, such as a cold, been treated recently? The cough after the infection can persist for several more weeks and this is "natural". If it is only a cough and this situation is repeated - it is worth going to the doctor and perhaps deepening the diagnosis (allergies, chronic diseases such as asthma). If cough accompanies infection, then the agents that are used in children in such situations (if there are no contraindications) are, for example: - in the case of productive cough, when the child coughs up residual secretions - syrups based on ivy, ambroxol or bromhexine. They are expectorants, so it is also recommended to drink plenty of fluids. These agents help to cough up secretions, so they "stimulate" cough. They are not used at night, because coughing can make it difficult to sleep and rest. - in the case of dry, unproductive cough - syrups with levodropropizine or butamirate are usually used. It is usually used, for example, at night to stop coughing during sleep. You can also use syrups to coat the throat, based on honey or mucous substances, which will moisturize the mucosa and thus help reduce the cough reflex. The answers in the Ask a Pharmacist forum are not a substitute for a medical or pharmaceutical consultation, so the above answer is not individual advice.
