In case of exposure to radioactive iodine, the recommendation to take potassium iodide is aimed at saturating the thyroid gland and protecting it against the uptake of radioactive iodine and, consequently, the risk of thyroid cancer. Therefore, people with a removed gland will not benefit from taking potassium iodide. There is no need to take potassium iodide in your case.
