Bacteria of the genus Acinetobacter are ubiquitous in nature. They are found in different types of soils and waters, and sometimes in food products. They are normal inhabitants of human skin and are capable of transient colonization of the upper respiratory tract. They can cause infections in weakened patients. Treatment is usually symptomatic - medications such as those for pharyngitis are used. If necessary - the doctor may prescribe an antibiotic.
