Good morning. Does the vaginal mycosis test have any other name than a swab? Recently, when I was at the gynecologist, I asked for a vaginal swab because I suffer from infections. I thought that the doctor would do a swab for everything for bacteria and fungi also and it turned out that he did only for bacteria. Does the vaginal mycosis test have any other name than a swab? And can every gynecologist do an examination for vaginal mycosis?

The word "swab" basically defines how the sample is taken and nothing else. However, it is the doctor who decides from where he will take the swab (e.g. urethra, cervix, posterior vaginal vault). However, it is the gynecologist who decides what kind of tests will be carried out on the sample. If the presence of fungi is to be checked, then the vaginal swab should be directed to a mycological examination. Some tests (e.g. for Chlamydia) may require a special kit to download. The gynecologist is not limited in the spectrum of laboratory tests that he can order the patient. The only obstacle may be technical issues, but you should ask for details directly in a specific clinic.
