Good morning, the ENT prescribed to his daughter 3 years (13.5kg) Avamys x1 per day. It was only at home that I read in the leaflet that the drug should not be used in children under 6 years. For several months, the daughter took nasonex interchangeably with pronasal 2x1. The cause - often a stuffy nose, a runny nose flowing along the back wall of the throat, suspicion of hypertrophy of the third almond. Can I safely administer Avamys, or could it be a doctor's oversight?

Your doctor may recommend the use of this medicine in a different way than as stated in the leaflet, based on the latest available studies (leaflets are not updated as often). Although there are no official recommendations yet on the dosage and use of fluticasone furoate (the active ingredient of Avamys aerosol) in children aged 2-5 years, preliminary studies have shown good efficacy and safety profile of this drug in this age range. If you observe any side effects, you should consult a doctor. The studies have seen side effects (such as nosebleeds, headache) of this medicine in less than 20% of children. I attach the leaflet of the drug: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/produkty/8195/avamys-aerozol/ulotka More about the so-called "off label" treatment, i.e. outside the indications from the leaflet, we wrote here: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/artykuly/leczenie-off-label-poza-wskazaniami
