If the current therapy turns out to be ineffective, it should prompt you to talk to your doctor. There is a wide selection of antiallergic drugs on the pharmacy market, so the specialist may recommend you to take a completely different preparation. Urticaria usually has a specific background - its identification makes it possible to answer the question of whether it can be cured - most likely yes, provided that its cause is eliminated. In order to make a diagnosis, however, it is necessary to conduct a thorough interview with the patient and tests and provocative tests, e.g. ASO, throat and vaginal swab, stool test for parasites, HBs and HIV antigen test for Helicobacter pylori, determination of antibody levels, rheumatoid factor, soluble nuclear antigen or skin biopsy in case of suspected vascular urticaria. The type of tests performed is usually decided by an allergist. If, after the tests, it is not possible to detect what causes urticaria, it is considered to be the so-called idiopathic urticaria, i.e. spontaneous urticaria of unknown origin. It is a spontaneous disease, the course of which can be acute (less than 6 weeks) or chronic (more than 6 weeks) and is characterized by the inability to detect the causative agent and the mechanism of development of the disease.
