The effects of the hymenotomy procedure (removal or incision of the hymen) are permanent, which means that the removed membrane will not grow back. However, problems with intercourse can have various causes and it is difficult for me to ensure that in your case the treatment will solve all of them. It is best to talk to a gynecologist or sexologist about the prognosis or difficulties in intercourse. After the procedure of incision or removal of the hymen, swelling may occur, which should disappear within a few days, up to a maximum of 14 days. Until the wound fully heals, intercourse is contraindicated, in general, it takes up to 4 weeks. However, please take into account that the course of convalescence is determined individually with the patient. The wound generally heals very well, and possible complications (may include thickening, scar hypertrophy, soreness, bleeding or infection) are rare.
