W aptekach dostępne są testy, które na podstawie badania próbki moczu lub śliny, pozwalają wykryć obecność metabolitów (produktów przemiany materii), takich środków odurzających, jak np.: marihuana i haszysz (THC), amfetamina, morfina, kokaina, ecstasy.

Nie wykrywają one dekstrometorfanu, ani jego metabolitów (wśród metabolitów nie stwierdzono obecności morfiny, kodeiny czy lewometorfanu). Jeśli chodzi o to, czy dekstrometorfan może utrudnić uzyskanie wiarygodnego wyniku - to może być zależne od testu konkretnego producenta.
