Citropepsin jest lekiem zawierającym jako substancję czynną pepsynę - enzym uczestniczący w procesie trawienia białek. W organizmie pepsyna powstaje w żołądku pod wpływem kwasu solnego z pepsynogenu, który jest wytwarzany przez grupę komórek błony śluzowej żołądka.
