The effect of intranasal medications containing mometasone increases gradually (usually the full effect is observed after 2 days from the start of treatment) and gradually wears off after discontinuation of the drug. There are no specific figures on the hours of action of the drug after discontinuation of its use, usually a time interval of 3-5 days is determined. Patients suffering from severe inflammation, e.g. due to allergies, will experience symptoms more quickly if exposed to an allergen. Nasal steroids do not exhibit systemic effects at registered doses. During treatment with nasal steroids, it is important to remember to systematically moisturize the nasal mucosa (ointments/moisturizing sprays).
