What is the risk if I chew Efracea capsules?

Do not chew/spill/split Efracea capsules. The medicine should be taken whole with plenty of water. The active substance contained in the medicine may cause irritation and ulceration of the esophagus. To avoid gastrointestinal discomfort, take the medicine in an upright position (sitting or standing) with an adequate amount of fluid. The capsule should be taken in the morning on an empty stomach or one hour before or two hours after a meal. The extended-release capsule allows the drug to work properly and minimize side effects. If you are unable to swallow the medicine whole, consult your doctor about changing your treatment.
