Flutamide is metabolised fairly rapidly. Its main active metabolite reaches maximum plasma concentrations within approximately 2 hours of administration. The half-life (i.e. the time in which the concentration of the drug decreases by half from the baseline) of this metabolite is about 6 hours, while in elderly patients it is extended and is 8 and 9.6 hours, respectively.

Within 24 hours, about 28% of the administered dose is excreted in the urine. Only about 4% of the drug is excreted in the faeces. In such a situation, complete elimination should take place after about 4 days. It should be remembered that in older people taking the drug for a long time, the elimination time may be extended (it is difficult to give a specific time interval in this case - a safe assumption will be to prolong the excretion of the drug from the body at least twice).
