I took Mounjaro, but I couldn't afford to increase the dose. After a month off, the doctor recommended Wegovy 1 mg, isn't that too high a dose?

I took Mounjaro in a dose of 5 mg, it stopped working, I took a month off. I informed the doctors. That I can't afford a dose greater than 7 mg of this drug. In return, I received the drug Wegovy in a dose of 1 mg, I'm afraid that it may be too much for me. A visit to the doctor in a month. I don't have diabetes suffering from overweight

Unfortunately, injectable weight loss drugs are expensive therapies.

In the case of Mounjaro, if you have taken a month off, your doctor would most likely suggest that you go back to a lower dose first to reduce the risk of side effects. However, if the dose of 5 mg did not bring satisfactory results, the doctor would probably recommend increasing it to 7.5 mg with the duration of therapy.

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) has a more complex mechanism of action, as it acts simultaneously on 2 receptors (GIP and GLP-1), thus affecting insulin secretion, glucagon inhibition, and appetite and weight regulation. Vegovy (semaglutide), on the other hand, acts only on 1 receptor (GLP-1), so it regulates appetite and body weight only.

In the case of Vegovy, according to the manufacturer, you should start treatment with the lowest dose (similar to Mounjaro and other weight loss injections):

"A maintenance dose of 2.4 mg once weekly of semaglutide is achieved starting with an initial dose of 0.25 mg. To reduce the likelihood of gastrointestinal symptoms, the starting dose should be gradually increased over 16 weeks until a maintenance dose of 2.4 mg once weekly is reached."

Of course, the dosage regimen may vary depending on individual tolerance - in the event of e.g. increased side effects from the digestive system, it will be recommended to delay the dose increase or temporarily return to the previous one.

I encourage you to consult your doctor again to determine the correct dosage and use of the drug. Sometimes doctors prescribe a pen with a higher dose and recommend an individual dosage, allowing for a lower dose from it, but this is not the method of using a pen recommended by manufacturers.

According to the information of Wegovy, after the first use of the pen, you can use it for 6 weeks. Store it below 30°C or in the refrigerator (2°C – 8°C). Depending on the pharmacy, the prices of Wegovy 1 mg vary from PLN 519.99 to PLN 1135.10. Here you can check its availability in pharmacies and make a reservation (after choosing the right dose):
