Good morning, yesterday in my 4-month-old daughter I felt a kind of lump under both nipples, I wanted to find out if it was normal at this age. I went to the pediatrician, who said that it was enlarged mammary glands and ordered to apply camphor ointment, but I read that it is dangerous for such small children. Are there other safe preparations or will the same disappear? Thank you and best regards.

Camphor ointment is not intended for babies. Most of these types of preparations are suitable for use in children from 6 years of age.
Perhaps it is worth consulting a pediatrician once again whether such a procedure will be safe. It should be borne in mind that camphor ointment can cause skin irritation, redness, allergies, rashes, etc. in such young children. Therefore, unless absolutely necessary, you should avoid using this product.

Enlargement of the mammary glands in such young children is most often a physiological phenomenon and is temporary. No ointments or creams are used.

If in a few weeks the glands will continue to be enlarged or will increase even more, the child should be consulted with an endocrinologist.

Redness, purulent discharge, fever can also be worrying – then an urgent consultation with a doctor is necessary.
