Studies comparing different selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (including sertraline, fluoxetine and citalopram) have shown no clear superiority of any of them over the others. Therefore, when choosing a drug from this group, it is worth considering the differences in possible side effects and potential interactions with other drugs used by the patient.

Weight gain is a common side effect of long-term use of SSRIs, although its severity depends on the specific preparation. Many studies have shown that fluoxetine is the least likely to lead to significant weight gain over a longer period of therapy.
