The KwikPen with the medication is only usable for 30 days from its first use. If you were to use a particular Pen for 3 months with a dose of 5 mg from a 15 mg Pen, it would take 3 months and the drug could be contaminated or ineffective, and in the worst case harmful.

The effectiveness of the therapy would then be significantly reduced. Therefore, such a solution is only an apparent saving.

The pen contains about 16 additional clicks, which are supposed to be enough to check the flow and this is not a full dose of the drug. Therefore, only 4 doses of a complete product can be taken from Pena 15 mg.

This is the only safe and effective solution.

If you can store medicine for 3 weeks at a temperature of 30 degrees, it is logical that you can store it in the refrigerator for much longer. In the 150-page document Annex to the product, there is no information about the storage date of the drug in the refrigerator.

So my post has been deleted in a nutshell. The disposal date after 21 days applies only to the drug stored at room temperature. Nothing is written about the term of the medicine stored in the refrigerator.

Don't listen to nonsense, just divide the drug, thousands of people in the world share the kwikpen and nothing happens to anyone, especially with the drug. You just have to observe so that the drug is not cloudy. Remember about one additional dose at the end, which you need to remove with an insulin tube. Officially, there is no such possibility. And unofficially, you can try to get 1/3 of the dose (counting the "clicks" when turning the knob - the full dose is 60 clicks, or looking at the scale). There is no guarantee that the dose will be measured correctly (but you can suspect so, because it is most likely the same pen that is used to measure the insulin dose). So to take 5 mg from a 15 mg pen you need 20 clicks.
The second problem is that the manufacturer recommends disposing of the pen 30 days after opening - leaving it for longer risks decomposition or contamination of the drug, and thus weaker effect or even infection of the skin/subcutaneous tissue. In my opinion, the risk can be reduced by keeping the pen in the fridge - but not on the fridge door (where the temperature rises every time you open the fridge, and practically never reaches 4 degrees), but in the depths and at the bottom of the fridge - in the coolest place. Of course, you have to be careful not to freeze the pen. I remind you that you can use these tips at your own risk and are completely inconsistent with the manufacturer's recommendations.

I am still waiting for confirmation from the medical department of Eli Lilly Polska. As soon as I get reliable information about a different dosage method than stated in the leaflet, the information will be posted below this post.
