Good morning. I started using Equoral for psoriasis. I know that this drug puts a strain on the kidneys and I wonder if it is worth supplementing something that would be good for the kidneys? Vitamins or other dietary supplements?

To minimise the risk of kidney damage when using Equoral, you should:
- Regularly monitor the level of cyclosporine in the blood and kidney function (creatinine, eGFR) - this helps to avoid excessive levels of the drug, which can increase the risk of toxicity, and to detect early deterioration of kidney function. Your doctor may adjust your dose depending on your results.
- Avoid other drugs with toxic effects on the kidneys, such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and aminoglycoside antibiotics.
- Stay hydrated, as this supports the proper functioning of your kidneys.
- Limit salt in your diet, as its high supply can lead to increased blood pressure, which puts additional strain on the kidneys.
- Avoid using supplements and herbs without consulting a doctor - some (e.g. St. John's wort) can affect the metabolism of the drug or increase the harmful effects on the kidneys.
- Avoid alcohol, as it can put additional strain on the liver and kidneys.
It is not recommended to include additional supplementation during Equoral treatment. I enclose the leaflet of the medicine: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/produkty/27496/equoral-kapsulki/ulotka
