Cortison (hydrocortisone in pill form) can cause a number of unwanted side effects, including allergic reactions. According to the Summary of Product Characteristics, possible side effects of Cortioson include:
* Allergic skin diseases such as urticaria, exudative erythema multiforme or erythema nodosum
* Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders such as atrophic dermatitis, folliculitis, contact allergy
* Increased risk of viral, bacterial and fungal infections due to a weakened immune response
Contraindications also include diabetes, epilepsy, glaucoma, manic-depressive psychosis, osteoporosis, ulcerative inflammation of the large intestine, myasthenia gravis and hypothyroidism.
It is important to remember that Cortison is a systemic drug, so it should only be used as prescribed and under strict medical supervision.
