Treatment of herpes in children should always be under the supervision of a pediatrician, especially if the child is under 12 years old. The doctor decides which medication to use.

From a pharmaceutical point of view, acyclovir is not absorbed significantly after topical application. The pharmacokinetics of acyclovir in children over 1 year of age are similar to those in adults. Still, it's a good idea to consult your pediatrician before using the drug.
