Typhoid fever is an acute infectious disease caused by Salmonella Typhi. It can be contracted as a result of drinking water or food contaminated with the excreta of sick people, as well as directly from an infected person. The most effective way to protect against the disease is vaccination, which further reduces the risk of dangerous complications. Any adult can get vaccinated at a pharmacy.
