The recommended doses of folic acid for pregnant women are: Low-risk group - healthy women without loads: 0.4 mg of folic acid per day during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Intermediate risk group - obese women, with diabetes, taking antiepileptic drugs, with a family history of fetal defects or reduced activity of the MTHFR enzyme: 0.8 mg, including active folates and vitamin B12. High risk group - the occurrence of neural tube defects in the mother, father or their offspring: 5 mg / day, including active folates and vitamin B12 (12 weeks before the planned pregnancy and in the first trimester of pregnancy), 0.8 mg / day (in the II and III trimesters and during lactation). According to currently available literature, 1mg of folic acid per day was considered a safe upper daily dose. Unfortunately, you did not specify what folic acid and in what dose it is taken, so we do not know what dose of folic acid you take. The Gestarelle supplement contains 400mcg of folic acid in one tablet. The dose of folic acid taken and the supplements used during pregnancy should be consulted with a gynecologist who has knowledge about the patient's health.
