Is it possible to take Xifaxan during a cold or Covid?
Good morning, for today I have planned a treatment with Xifaxan. Since yesterday I have a cold (maybe covid? Who knows). Can I start taking Xifaxan in such a situation?

Xifaxan is an oral drug with antibacterial effect. It contains Rifaximin, an antibiotic from a class of drugs called Rifamycins, but unlike other rifamycins, it is only slightly absorbed in the intestine into the bloodstream and acts only on microbes found in the intestine. Xifaxan is active against most of the bacteria responsible for intestinal infections. I think you can start the treatment. The drug also has no effect on the result of the Covid test.
