Działanie leku Desmoxan jest podobne do nikotyny. Cytyzyna czyli substancja czynna leku, wchłonięta z produktu leczniczego ze względu na podobny mechanizm działania konkuruje z nią o te same receptory.
Z tego względu lek Desmoxan powinien być równie skuteczny przy pierwszej kuracji jak i kolejnych.
Niestety każda nieudana próba palenia, zmniejsza szanse na całkowite rzucenie nałogu.
