When can I breastfeed after a drug treatment Xifaxan?

I take xifaxan 2x2 for 7 days, after how many days can I start breastfeeding my baby? How many days should I wait?

The manufacturer does not recommend the use of Xifaxan in breastfeeding women due to the lack of sufficient data on the excretion of the drug in milk. It should be noted that rifaximin is absorbed to a small extent (less than 1%) and is excreted 99.6% unchanged in the faeces. Due to the negligible amount of the drug in the bloodstream, the half-life of the drug is not given, so it will probably be quite sufficient to wait approx. 12 h (time between doses).

It should also be noted that according to the Lactation Lexicon of Drugs (containing the classification according to Prof. Hale), rifaximine belongs to the L3 category, i.e. Drugs probably safe during lactation, which means that it is assumed that the drug may have a small effect on the breastfed baby.
