I took Azithromycin 500 mg instead of 1 g by mistake – how should the dosage be adjusted?

Hello, I mistakenly drank Azithromycin for 5 days at 500 mg, when the doctor prescribed 1 gram, I did not immediately notice, can I drink another tablet of Azithromycin during the day and extend the course of treatment with the remaining tablets from the next day (for another 3 days 2 tablets)?

Azithromycin has a dosing regimen that depends on the disease and body weight, and a sudden increase in dose during the day is not recommended as it may increase the risk of side effects such as heart rhythmias or gastrointestinal problems.

In this situation, the safest thing to do is to contact your doctor, who will assess whether to continue treatment with the originally prescribed dose or change the regimen. Do not "correct" the missing dose yourself or double the tablets in one day. Please remember that errors in the dosage of antibiotics can lead to drug resistance, so only a doctor can safely complete or correct this process after examining you.
