Loperamide can be used in patients in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy if there is a reasonable need for treatment. Due to limited studies, the use of loperamide in pregnancy, especially in the 1st trimester, is not recommended, although animal data do not indicate that loperamide is teratogenic and embryotoxic.
