Tobrex is a preparation applied topically on a small area of the body, for a relatively short time. Drugs administered to the skin have a lower risk of affecting the foetus than those administered orally. Studies in which aminoglycosides (including tobramycin, a substance contained in Tobrex ointment) were administered orally or parenterally to pregnant women showed no risk to the foetus.
