Dulcobis suppositories contain bisacodyl, while glycerin suppositories contain glycerol. These substances have a different mechanism of action.
Bisacodyl irritates the rectal mucosa, thanks to which it stimulates intestinal peristalsis and increases the water content in fecal masses, which causes them to relax and facilitates bowel movement.
The glycerol contained in glycerin suppositories is a lubricant that stimulates the contractility of the rectal bulb, thus facilitating bowel movements.
Glycerin suppositories are used as a mild laxative used on an ad hoc basis in the treatment of constipation, while suppositories containing bisacodyl - in the short-term symptomatic treatment of constipation, including habitual and chronic constipation in bedridden patients and the elderly. Bisacodyl is also often used to cleanse the intestine before diagnostic tests, as well as surgical procedures that require it.
