Contraindications to the use of Klacid include:
- if you are allergic to clarithromycin or other macrolide antibiotics or any of the other ingredients of this medicine,
- use of ergot alkaloids (e.g. ergotamine or dihydroergotamine) or midazolam,
- use of medicines that may cause severe cardiac arrhythmias,
- use of astemizole or terfenadine, cisapride or domperidone, pimozide,
- ticagrelor or ranolazine,
- too low levels of potassium or magnesium in the blood,
- the use of lovastatin, simvastatin,
- severe hepatic insufficiency with concomitant renal insufficiency.
- if you or your family have a history of heart rhythm problems or electrocardiogram (ECG) abnormalities called 'long QT syndrome'.
- use of colchicine or lomitapide.
