My 85 year old mom has been taking zoloft for 6 months, until October she was taking 75 mg and then 100 mg. When she increased to 100 mg she started to have side effects in the form of panic and anxiety attacks, nervousness, with a lower dose she did not have any side effects. This condition has been going on for 7 weeks now. Will this ever go away or should she stop taking this medication?

Agitation and nervousness are common side effects of Zoloft. It is worth consulting the problem with a doctor - it may be enough to reduce the dose if it does not affect the effectiveness of the treatment. Do not stop taking the drug on your own, and you certainly shouldn't stop the treatment abruptly, as withdrawal symptoms (e.g. headache and dizziness, anxiety, fatigue) may occur. If the problem gets worse, your doctor may suggest that you change your medicine.
