Good morning, 19.04.2023 I was at the gynecologist and he said that I was in the process of ovulation. 03.05.2023 I got a slight spotting that lasted until 08.05.2023. The last intercourse with a copper insert took place on 09.04.2023. Yesterday afternoon I did a pregnancy test with a sensitivity of 10 mlU, which is 29 days after intercourse. The test came out negative. Can I be sure that the test is reliable? Can the test not detect, for example, ectopic pregnancy?

Immediately after inserting the copper IUD, the doctor can indicate whether additional protection against pregnancy is necessary, if so, for how long. If, on the other hand, you constantly use a copper intrauterine device that is correctly located (it did not fall out, did not move, the gynecologist confirmed that it is in the uterine cavity), then the probability of pregnancy is very small. The copper insert does not block ovulation - it does not contain hormones, so it does not affect the work of the ovaries. The copper ions released from the insert act only locally. A test performed 29 days after intercourse should easily detect a normal pregnancy if it happened. The pregnancy test detects a hormone - chorionic gonadotropin, which also increases in the case of ectopic pregnancy, but not as quickly as in a normal pregnancy. Doubts related to the possibility of ectopic pregnancy are dispelled by ultrasound. Your entry shows that 10 days passed between intercourse and ovulation found by the gynecologist - so it is practically impossible for sperm to survive so long and lead to fertilization.
